A MESSAGE TO SYSOPS
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Two items that I feel are worth bringing to your attention:
1. A number of sysops who receive DTPBBSxx.ZIP on a regular basis have
pointed out the value of posting this list as a bulletin available to all. The
reasons for this are basic:
First is that it is a service to the user. The second is that the number
of folks getting involved in BBSing is increasing dramatically. This means a
number of new users. While many of them may want to use this list (or others
like it), they have problems. Some have yet to learn the ins and outs of
downloading; others haven't got their zip utilities yet, so they can't deal
with zipped files; and so on.
Not being a sysop myself, I hadn't really thought about this before.
Obviously, whether you choose to post this list or any other is entirely up to
you, but I feel it's worth your consideration.
2. With the onrush of technology in the desktop publishing arena, many boards
are now carrying desktop conferences, files, message bases and so forth. If you
are one of these boards, you may be aware that there was a loose-knit group of
boards known as the National Publisher's Exchange (NPE).
The NPE was founded and run by Ed Aborn, former sysop of the Eastern
Publisher's Exchange BBS in Florida. Regretably, Ed's board is now defunct. As
a result, the NPE itself has been reorganized and is now known as the
International Publishers Exchange (IPE).
The IPE is a major international effort aimed at opening the communication
channels between desktop publishing oriented bulletin board systems,
corporations and user groups. More detailed information is contained in the
accompanying file, PUBNET.TXT.
If this sounds at all interesting to you, or you feel you can be helpful
in this effort, contact Carl Dickson on the Infinite Perspectives BBS
(301/924-0398; FidoNet node 1:109/519). Sysops in Europe are encouraged to
contact Steve Dick on the DTP Users BBS (44-81-656-5190; FidoNet node
2:252/118.0).
Alternatively, you may contact Carl or Steve through PubNet--the IPE's BBS
network--by connecting to one of the participating boards (noted with an
asterisk in the accompanying DTPBBS list) and leaving a message in the PubNet
conference.
Thanks for listening,
Frank...
